National holiday

Our national holiday today. 12 years ago since we officially reunified both “Germanys!”….Many Christians all over the nation are meeting today for prayer…both in national as well as regional prayer gatherings. Will go to the one in Berlin (too lazy to travel and it does not make

sense anyhow)….otherwise happy to have a holiday as I worked much on an intense project in the last few days: finishing the translation of Pat Cockings book “Thrid heaven, angels and oher stuff” (English version available at her homepage ).

Faust´s Metropolis

CIMG0337Saw this really cool book on Berlin yesterday. Full history through the centuries. Thick enough to kill a man with it when you hit his head with the “Berlins history Bible” . It is called “Faust´s Metropolis – A history of Berlin” by Alexandra Richie. It is pretty expensive…27 Euro, but would be worth the money if I had it).

What a great city to live in….if one cannot read all the books that are written about it.

Visit Berlin

Walked through Berlin with my friends from Prague…well….can´t really say we walked through Berlin…it was more like going through all the thrift store shops and finding hippie clothes and huge shoes (size 45) for them….Andrew sais that to him Berlin seems like a city always rising up….a new group of people moves in and the city rises again….interesting way of describing the place, but it does make sense somehow….

Good and bad news

The good news: right wing (neonazi) motivated violence has decreased in Berlin. It is only half as bad as it was last year. That´s a real reason to be happy.

The bad news: theft obviously has not decreased. My bike was stolen from the inner court of the house I live in. That ´s the second bike I lost within 14 months …I am frustrated…especially since the last year was pretty hard financially. I had to sell my car and right now I do not have the money to replace the bike. That´s frustrating…(if you have a moment….please pray that I would be encouraged again!)

Summertime

Berlin in summer is great…who would not want to live in a city with dozens of lakes, thousands of street cafés, countless open air cinemas….full of bubbling life and sunshine…..after two days of it the weeks of rain are almost forgotten.

BERLIN IS GREAT!

Weather in Berlin

Weather in Berlin is mad. As a result of the storm two weeks ago there are still hundreds of broken trees and branches all over Berlin waiting to be picked up….and yesterday we had:
Sunshine – hailstorm – sunshine – hailstorm – sunshine and wind…had a weird day…reading on the balcony – running inside – reading – running inside – going for a little bike tour. Now it is as usual: cloudy sky.

Berlin is wonderful

Went to see Hackesche Hoefe yesterday. It is one of the Berlin and Tourist hotspots. However…I had never been there…or maybe once years back…..isn´t it weird how one sometimes does not even know the best places in town…Had a coffee at starbucks (not very stylish, but I wanted to read and they had the most comfy sofas…and the most expensive coffee…3.40 Euro (almost equivalent to Dollar) for a Latte -that´s nuts….and then strolled around to have a look at the bookshops, thearters, galleries (did not managed to understand the art I saw, but never mind. Berlin is a wonderful city!

Berlin and the thunderstorm

Berlin survived the worst thunderstorm in decades and we were out in a lake at the outskirts of Berlin….Glad I had a mountain bike when we raced back (me with a friend who did not have a bike at the back “seat” of my bike)….trying to escape from the falling tree branches and trees as we headed for the next train station….1400 uprooted trees and 7 people dead…pretty tough….

Together for Berlin

Yesterday we had the first forum meeting for together for Berlin. Forum is the idea to bring people from  different sectors (prayer, business, communication, medical professions, teachers, politics) togehter, so that they could encourage and inspire one another and also think of ways how they could work together bless the city.

There are some groups that already exist: – Christians involved in reaching out to the youth – Christians in medical / therapeutical professions – English speaking churches Others are in the process of being formed. Networking is not the same as unity, but it is an important step towards unity!
